Hi, FLORIDABIRDS-L, and by copy BIRDTRIP:
During the more than two years since I started FLORIDABIRDS-L, there have
been instances where FLBIRDS' subscribers have made exotic trips beyond the
Florida border. Since FLBIRDS is limited to the birds of Florida, these
travelers could not post about their great bird findings in Spain, Alabama,
Costa Rica, etc.
I have promised that someday I would re-open BIRDTRIP hosted by the
University of Arizona, and now I have done so.
Look in your records for the trip reports you would like to have on a
national list and send them to: [log in to unmask]
You must be a subscriber and that can be achieved by sending a message to
[log in to unmask]
The message: subscribe BirdTrip YourFirstName YourLastName
Only subscribers will be notified of the available trip reports.
The list will be moderated to keep the Asian spam off the list and to be
able to get the report in consistent form. BE SURE ! to put the location
and the date of the trip report on the subject line.
Since the list is set to index, you will not get a copy of the trip report
unless you follow the instructions in the message notifying you of the trip
report. This is the standard way of handling an indexed list.
At this time I am only announcing it here on FLORIDABIRDS-L, but it will not
be closed to anyone who wishes to send a trip report. The report can be in
addition to postings on other lists, also. There are just over 300
subscribers who have been on the list since it was last active. And
subscriptions have been received from time to time. A copy is sent to the
faithful who have stayed on the list albeit by "index."
At this time, the size of the report is limited to 350 lines. If your trip
report exceeds that limit, you will be notified and should divide it into
sections.
This is the type of message you will get about trip reports as they become
available (illustrated by a test message I sent yesterday):
>Index Date Size Poster and subject
----- ---- ---- ------------------
>000447 12/01 4 From: Barbara Passmore <[log in to unmask]>
Subject: TEST
>The sizes shown are the number of lines in the messages, not counting mail
headers.
>To order the messages you are interested in, simply reply to this message
and
include the original text, just as when you are replying to a normal message
and want to quote what your correspondent said. Before sending the message,
delete the lines corresponding to the items you are not interested in, and
make
sure your reply is going to "[log in to unmask]",
NOT
to "[log in to unmask]".

If anyone has any questions, please send them to me at:

Let me know if you have any problems, also.
